Know what your teen is doing behind the wheel with the Teen Driver feature
December 28 2020,
When your youth leaves home in your vehicle, how often do you have thought about how their experience is going? Is he or she safe? Is he or she taking unnecessary dangers? Is he or she behaving recklessly?
GM has asked itself the same questions and has developed an application that monitors a host of predetermined parameters. This application, which is called Teen Driver, allows you to keep an eye on your teen's driving.
All you have to do is pair one of your vehicle's smart keys with the application, and you're done. And every time your kid gets behind the wheel, their behaviour will be recorded and compiled, so you can take the time to look at things with them to help them improve their driving. Or bring him back to order if they tend to overdo it.
The system allows you to monitor different aspects of your kids driving behaviour. Take anything related to speed, for example.
By adjusting the appropriate parameters, you'll know if your kid exceeds a cruising speed that you've chosen in advance (between 65 km/h and 120 km/h). You'll also be able to find out if he's going at the maximum speed allowed, which is 136 km/h (85 miles per hour). And the system records everything, so you'll know how many times these situations have occurred.
Still about speed, you can also require your vehicle to accelerate smoothly, rather than using all the power available. That's a great feature if you know your youngster likes speed.
Another great feature is anything to do with audio. It's possible to limit access to certain satellite radio channels (some of which broadcast content that isn't necessarily appropriate for young people). The volume can also be limited so that your youth's concentration will be kept on the road and not distracted by noise. As well, the sound can be muted if the seatbelts are not fastened.
And speaking of seatbelts, if your teen tends not to buckle, you can make sure the transmission can't be engaged. In other words, no belts, no car.
As you can see, the possibilities are incredible with this system. What's more, it provides you with a complete report. For example, if the automatic emergency braking system has engaged, you'll be informed of the number of instances, which could help you initiate a discussion about driving with your teenager.
All in all, an interesting tool that adds to the offer and allows you to have a little more peace of mind when your teen borrows your vehicle.
